Understanding Kaizen | Japanese Philosophy | Ease it !!
Did you know that
there is a Japanese method that will help you achieve big goals with small
changes?
In this blog I will show you how it works and how easy it can be, below: Understanding Kaizen, Japanese Philosophy.
OBJECTIVE:
Kaizen
is a word of Japanese origin that means "Continuous Improvement". It
is a philosophy that encourages small changes to create a big impact over time.
This
methodology is a great option to seek continuous improvement in a personal and
business way. It is based on initiating changes daily in order to achieve
better results in less time and in an efficient way.
Kaizen
includes quality control, managing time well, standardizing processes, using
efficient equipment, and eliminating waste.
REFLECTIVE:
We
can use this method in the personal and work environment. For example, to be
more productive at work. On most occasions, the same routine is
carried out every day without analyzing what can be improved in each activity
or process. If we stop for a moment to see in detail what we do and what are
the obstacles that we must eliminate, we can reduce our time to use it in other
things that we want.
Likewise,
in our personal activities we can also apply it, for example:
cutting a mango, we generally know only one way to do it but there are many, so
it is to see which method makes it easier for me to have the fruit ready to eat
or look for a method each time that is better than the previous one, which
reduces waste, time and that is easy to do.
Currently,
this philosophy or method is applied in different types of companies and is
explained in many publications such as in the article: “How Kaizen can power
your productivity” (Toyota, 2017). In this article it is mentioned that by
carrying out constant practices and continuous improvements, great changes will
be obtained. It also explains how it is applied in the Toyota company and the
commitment to search for better results.
Another
interesting article is "The Practice Of Kaizen Will Help You Improve 1%
Per Day And Lead To Amazing Long-Term Success” (Forbes, 2019) This article
tells us the importance of using it in our personal lives and gives an example
of finding a job, the steps to follow.
INTERPRETIVE:
The
application of the kaizen method in the business environment
offers many benefits such as: the best control and reduction of costs, the reduction
of waste that does not add value and that helps to save, another benefit is to
improve the quality of the products with fewer errors. All of this helps
workers create a culture of continuous improvement because it increases their
productivity, promotes creativity, and improves the work environment, as well
as customer satisfaction.
On
the other hand, applying it in our personal life will bring us
benefits such as creating new processes, prioritizing our actions, taking
advantage of our time, visualizing, monitoring our progress, eliminating waste
and excesses.
DECISIONAL:
After
deciding to have better results in our personal and work lives, you can begin
to implement this method with a brief training in companies and see examples of
how they were applied in other companies, also see the great results such as
before and after, and the great job satisfaction. You also have other sources
of information such as books and websites that tell you how to achieve these
changes step by step. Finally, some applications can be used to measure the
evolution of progress and evaluate changes, such as: eKaizen.app, lumiformapp
and Ikizen.app.
